Howdy all...

This morning I found out that my dad was going to be released from the hospital tomorrow and I would have a bit of time to myself.

As I prepared, I decided to turn on a bit of music and found myself dancing around my bathroom with MAC brushes in hand (I try to get my make up routine down to one song.. if you need to wear TONS of make-up, you're wearing the WRONG makeup IMHO).
What was pouring from my iPhone into the earbuds?  Amr Diab and Tarkan.  Yes, it's not TOP 40.. It's Arabic and Turkish.  And I wasn't popping and dropping.. I was doing the shimmy until I was breathless.  I love bellydancing.  And not those cheesy belly dance tapes, I mean dancing at a party where there's only ladies, steaming hot tea, baklava and hip scarves.  The ones where everyone leaves with two kisses on the cheek and beautiful flowing robes and abayas.  Yes, the authentic type.
I've lived in that type of "dress for women", wonderfully segregated society for 15 years.  Actually my whole adulthood and now I'm out in the 'real world".  My question is..  this, obviously, isn't the culture I was raised in, nor am I married (any longer) to someone who was raised in the culture, how would that be perceived by a potential mate? Not the belly dancing, of course guys would enjoy that ;) the other aspects...
My home.. is filled with Greek and Turkish tiles, my rugs are Afgani.. I make a mean kebab, dolma and finish it off with a southern pecan pie.
I speak Spanish, Turkish, and read Arabic.  My ringtones are Luis Miguel, Tim McGraw and Drake and it all feels normal.  I just wonder... how would someone take all that?

La,
I agree with Pat. The fact that you can offer someone such texture and diverse layers of  yourself is intriguing. I would think the right gentleman will embrace all that you have to offer, enjoy learning the various cultural flavors you yourself have experienced and hopefully be able to keep up!

Someone SHOULD take it to say you are one heck of a interesting lady.  Eyepopping cultural background...thoroughly fascinating, with a hefty dose of mystery thrown in. A thousand and one questions come to MY mind...  At least that many should come to the mind of any man worthy of you, LaNegrita.

Of course, there are surely many men who would run like the wind from such an exciting background--but you shouldn't give them a second thought.  Even if you "caught" one of them, you'd be bored to tears with him in no time.

A food analogy:  There's plain white bread, plain white rice, simple vegetable oil for sauteing diced chicken in, and plain old peas and carrots or even plain old spinach out of a can.

Then there's whole wheat bread baked with fresh chunks of garlic and rosemary.  Brown rice boiled al dente in a mix of water and dry sherry or saki with a few favored seasonings thrown in... Extra virgin olive oil with fresh chopped shallots for sauteing diced chicken in, peas and carrots--mixed with asparagus spears, and a couple of favorite Chinese vegies,  a bit of freshly chopped garlic--and stir-fried in peanut oil--or olive oil--to perfection.  And spinach--ah, spinach!  Fresh, wet spinach, in a stock pot with olive oil and freshly chopped garlic...throw on the lid....count to roughly 25--spinach is wilted to perfection and not the least bit soggy.  And if one is really daring, onto the spinach, drizzle some sesame seed oil.  Not the cooking oil--the condiment oil.  Absolutely extraordinary.

You, my dear, are the latter of the two scenarios.

Pat
