Quoting SaraJo:
Do you know someone who seems withdrawn, somewhat unfriendly, stuck up, so strongly defended that you believe a cholla cactus would be more approachable? If you do then chances are you know an introvert. The biggest problem with introverts is the social myths about them. Myth #1 - they don't like people. Myth #2 - they are recluses. Myth #3 - they are socially inept. You see, introverts actually like people very much. They love to 'chit-chat', they love social gatherings, they enjoy being with others, (especially if there are positive vibs there!). But unfortunately we introverts loose our energy when around other people. Some people drain us of all our energy. These people are dangerous as the introvert can physically feel their energy being drained from them. It's like a hole in a water tank, the energy just drains rapidly out of us. So we develope protective mechanisms; we stay away from people, social gatherings, 'drainers'; and sadly because of our drive to protect our energy we don't develope stellar social skills. Some of us can be real clutzs. But....there a LOT of introverts out there in the social world, dealing with people every day; these people have learned socially acceptable protective mechanisms. It can still be quite tiring for these people, but they do okay in the world. So...next time you are around someone, a friend, accquaintance, co-worker....if they seem withdrawn, please go up to them and say 'hi', 'have a good day;' you might be amazed what you have just done for someone.
